Last night Marek Janowski gave the first performance of the second half of his subscription concert series consisting entirely of the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. Once again, he confined the program to a relatively brief period from Beethoven’s life, covering the years between 1800 and 1804 in contrast to his first concert, which ran between 1803 and 1806. The one point of temporal overlap was the 1804 Opus 56 “triple” concerto in C major, which occupied the center of the program sequence. It was flanked by the first two symphonies, Opus 21 in C major (1800) and Opus 36 in D major (1802).
